Mama’s on Brooklyn Based!

Brooklyn Based profiles Mama’s Food Shop as she opens her second location in Brooklyn!

“For some restauranteurs the commute is all about economics. Jeremiah Clancy, proprietor of the beloved 15-year-old East Village comfort food emporium, Mama’s Food Shop, started scouting for locations in Brooklyn when he found himself without a client base shortly after the downturn. “The recession really hit the East Village pretty hard and we saw our clientele dropping,” he said. “It pushed the last notion of young people out because the rents were so high.” After a successful run as a pop-up at Veronica People’s Club this past summer, Clancy will open a Williamsburg storefront at the end of October. “The vitality of the city has moved across the river. And by no means am I bad-mouthing this city because I love it. I chose to move here 18 years ago. But it’s hard to run a business there.”

Eater NY Writes About the Mama’s Popup Shop in Greenpoint!

“Mama’s Food Shop, an excellent and cheap comfort food staple on East 3rd Street near Avenue B is finally taking its hipsterish ethos over the East River to Brooklyn. They’ll be opening a permanent South Williamsburg location as soon as next month. And in the meantime, they’ll operate a pop-up cafe out of Greenpoint bar Veronica People’s Club.

Starting today, the Mama’s team will serve plates of fried chicken, pork shoulder, seasonal vegetables, and mac and cheese on Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays from 6 – 10 PM. Prices run $10 for a plate of three sides, $11 for a meat with a side, and $12 for a meat with two sides. The portions will be just as generous as they are in the East Village, and the hours will coincide with the bar’s happy hour. Look out for more news on the permanent Williamsburg location next week.”
